We have recently found out with increased interest about AC Cars’ plans to build a sustainable future for its business, bringing electric power to both street and racing versions of the legendary Cobra. Now, that wasn’t exactly surprising, considering the British Isles are targeting a “green industrial revolution.”
With the UK government looking to ban ICE cars from 2030 and hybrids just half a decade later, it’s clear that automakers need to quickly rethink their strategies towards electrification if they want to survive this major paradigm change.
AC Cars is one of the brands that recently revealed plans to bring zero-emission powertrains into its models, basically turning the Cobra into a high-performance electric vehicle for both road and track.
Now, the company is revealing ambitious new plans for 2021, which include the introduction of the “Autokraft by AC” brand name to cater to its business focused on the two-wheel market. That’s right, AC Cars is shockingly going for an extremely popular niche – electric scooters.
They already have their first product up and ready to roll, the TR560 model, which retails for £1,692 (including VAT). That’s around $2,268 at the current exchange rates, which sounds a bit expensive for a market that’s said to be dominated by Chinese imports.
“Scooter buyers and riders in the UK need to understand where their product is coming from, the proven automotive standards used in its design and manufacture and the heritage behind our famous brand. Our TR560 scooter has a 24-volt lithium-ion battery pack with a built-in charger and its key performance figures are more than a match for other machines in the market,” explains Alan Lubinsky, the owner of AC Cars for the past 25 years.
As far as performance credentials are concerned, the new e-scooter reaches up to 25 kph (almost 16 mph) and comes with a range of 50 km (31 miles) in its base configuration. If the figures are too low, there’s a very inexpensive (£50/$67) battery upgrade with a higher (though unspecified) output.
