Mercedes-AMG is planning to build a hypercar that could be codenamed R50, and that will have an engine lent from its Formula 1 cars.
The first customer of this upcoming model, which has only been revealed in the form of a sketch at this year’s Paris Motor Show, might be an unnamed man from Australia.
Apparently, the mysterious customer has placed a substantial deposit for the new multi-million-dollar hypercar from Mercedes-AMG.
The news comes from the Australians at Motoring, who have received confirmation from Mercedes-AMG representatives that the vehicle will be imported on the continent regardless of the fact that the German hypercar will only be available in a left-hand-drive configuration.
There is no word on the price of this vehicle, and no official wants to say when it will reach its first customers. Most likely, it will be shown next year, since 2017 will mark the 50th anniversary of AMG, so it is possible that the German company might plan something special to celebrate.
However, the moment the concept vehicle is shown might be separated by several years from the time when the production car is roaring down the road.
We are sure that the Australian customer that paid an unspecified deposit for this model was informed of this aspect, but we believe that they know how to wait. Some believe that the end of 2018 should have the first examples on the road, possibly in production trim.
Mercedes-Benz’s Australian senior manager, David McCarthy, has revealed that the country will get multiple examples of the hypercar, but they only have one confirmed cash deposit.
The all-new hypercar from Mercedes-AMG will come with a 1.6-liter V6 engine that is sourced from the company’s Formula 1 team. An official of the German brand described the power plant as a "carbon copy" of the F1 unit.
The body of the Mercedes-AMG hypercar will be made from carbon fiber, and many other parts of it will feature the sturdy and light material. It will also have active aerodynamics, so it should be incredibly fast in the right hands. One of the highlights of the car is a five-figure redline, which could sit around 11,000 rpm.
