The European electric vehicle market might grow bigger and will have more to offer as the Australian electric scooter manufacturer Vmoto is making inroads in the Old Continent. The Aussies have big plans for the EU and since their business is growing, we might very well see Europe become one of the new major markets for Vmoto.
Q2 saw Vmoto selling 13% more vehicles than in the same period last year, but the biggest growth comes from international markets. With around 40% more electric scooters sold in Q2 2015 in international markets than in the same three months of 2014, it is obvious that the demand of Vmoto machines is following a growing trend.

Vmoto has already appointed a distributor in the UK and Ireland, more countries to follow

The UK and Ireland seem to be the first European countries that benefit from an appointed distributor. No information was provided as to whether Vmoto plans to use the UK dealership as a base of operations for the entire continent, but more countries are next on the list.

Vmoto plans to expand to Denmark and Switzerland, alongside finding a partner to serve as a North American importer and grow the retail network in that market.

One of the very interesting plans Vmoto made for Europe is to establish a partnership with a European supermarket group. Such practices are not uncommon, and manufacturers of various goods are eyeing reducing their per-unit margins in favor of the much larger volumes selling their products in supermarket chains yields.

China remains one of the strongest markets for electric bikes

The fact that China is the world's strongest market for electric scooters is also reflected in Vmoto's sales in this market. In the same Q2, the 43 Chinese outlets sold north of 6,000 units of the total of around 22,000 Vmoto vehicles sold, an increase of 16% over the previous years.

Managing Director Charles Chen expects that the sales in the second half of 2015 be even stronger. If Vmoto secures the supermarket chain deal, competitiveness in Europe in this segment will also become stronger.

And if you don't believe in the tie-up between a motorcycle/scooter manufacturer and a retailer of goods, just wait to see how profitable will be Enel's recent decision to sell the latest Piaggio Electric bike Project.
