Opel announced recently it plans to introduce the new Opel Zafira people carrier in Australia after the car’s launch in August this year.
The first generation Zafira sold there had a Holden badge between 2001 and 2005. It was dropped later due to its small number of sales and the import cost. Now, after Opel studied the Australian dealer demands, they will bring the stylish people carrier back.
There will be two versions of Zafira for the Australian market - a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol model and a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel, both bolted to six-speed automatic gearboxes.
Opel didn’t say anything about pricing, but they hinted that it will be competing with the Honda Odyssey, which has a starting price of AU$37,100.
The Zafira will be offered in Australia along with three other Opel models: Corsa, Astra and the Insignia, plus their OPC derivatives. Other models such as the Cascada and the Mokka are on the Aussie’s wish-list but they were not confirmed yet.
