If there’s a place where you can learn of the newest toys on the market in terms of auto-motion, then the SEMA show is it. Sure, we’re a couple a months away from November, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start talking about what the industry’s brightest minds and hottest products will bring us this year.
Speaking of bright and hot, we’d like to talk a little about this Australian start-up that is working on a car that could offer the ultimate endurance experience. Melbourne based electric vehicle technology startup EVX had recently announced they will exhibit its scaled down custom solar car and spinoff technologies.

Meet Immortus, a limited edition bespoke sportscar powered by the sun. Its makers claim we’re looking at a world premiere, and it may as well be, considering its features. Here’s how they describe this bad boy:

The Immortus is a quarter ton 40kW composite roadster designed to carry two people with room for hand luggage. Fully laden it can take its 5m (16’5”) by 2m (6’7”) body from 0-100km/hr (62miles/hour) in less than 7 seconds. It has a combined battery and solar range of over 550km at an average of 85km/h and a top speed of over 150 km/h. Depending on certain conditions, it can run on an unlimited range on solar alone at over 60 km/h. The advanced aerodynamics and chassis design allow to feel and drive like a truly nimble and balanced sports car.

Some pretty impressive stuff, if you ask us, but until we see this two-person sportscar hit the road, there’s no telling on its actual performances. EVX say their solar car will be aesthetically pleasing and be able to make drivers entirely independent. This is quite a lot to bear with, so maybe we should learn more of its maker first.

According to the company, EVX is a collaboration with the leading electric vehicle Research and Development group at the Swinburne University of Technology and experienced local engineers who have designed and produced award winning solar racing cars before.

Moreover, while developing the solar car technology platform, EVX has also identified other innovations that have global commercial potential. We'll have to wait for SEMA to see if things work out.
