Audi Urban Concept Goes Topless at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show

Audi’s latest creation addressed to city transportation the Urban Concept car is expected to be one of the most breathtaking concepts of the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. The car was first spotted on the streets of Berlin, and after the stunt Audi came clean and released the actual renderings of the car. After all the fuss created around the concept things take another turn that add more excitement to the actual event. The manufacturer decided to remove the roof of the car turning the concept into a Spyder open-top. As it was originally revealed by the manufacturer the urban concept’s roof and doors slide backwards to allow access inside the car, but as Audi doesn’t stop to amaze its audience, showing the roof can come off altogether. As it is clearly visible when comparing the two models, a huge difference can be spotted especially when talking about the windshield of the car and the retracting side-door windows of the original car. Thus, the convertible version is able to offer more movement freedom than the tiny hard-top. Aside from the roof of the car the exterior body design looks the same, including the flat fascia and the freestanding wheels which we have to mention are different only in matter color, being painted in black. Furthermore, the Spyder offers the same 1+1 layout, ultralight build with lithium-ion battery and dual powertrain, which is the same as the hard-top version. We have to mention that both versions of the Urban Concept will be present at the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
