Anybody who’s looked at MTM’s tuning programs knows the 2.5-liter turbo engine in the Audi TT-RS or RS3 Sportback has plenty left to give after it left the factory form.
But in the ever lasting power battles with Mercedes and BMW, Audi is starting to lose out. The new M15i is less powerful than the RS3 but more dynamic, while next year’s A45 AMG makes 10 more horsepower with only 2 liters of displacement.

The 2.5-liter is going to be re-tuned by the quattro division in order to find extra power. Starting with September 2014, all cars sold in Europe will have to be EU6 compliant, and the turbo five-banger will have to become greener as well.

In a recent interview, quattro development boss Stephan Reil told motoring.com.au that "the five-cylinder engine has to be EU6-compliant and we have to modify it".

Fortunately, there’s no way we’re singing the death of the turbo-5. This engine is a legend with Audi fans and has even been fitted to Audi R8 prototypes.
