Audi has finally took the wraps off the conceptual successor to the legendary Sport quattro that roamed the streets and won Rallies back in the 1980s. Called Sport quattro Concept, the hybrid sportscar will be shown to the public at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
Powered by a 560 HP 4.0-liter V8 engine and a 11kW electric motor, the Sport quattro delivers a total output of 700 HP and 800Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque. The power enables the plug-in hybrid to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 189 mph (304 km/h), while emissions are rated at 59g/km.

Even though Audi brags about the Sport quattro Concept being built with “extensive use” of lightweight materials such as aluminum and carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP), the Sport quattro Concept tips the scale at 1,850 kg (4,078 pounds) including the batteries. Speaking of which, fuel consumption is rated at 2.5 liters/100 km which translates into 94 mpg in the United States and 113 mpg in the United Kingdom.

Inside, where “racing meets elegance”, the concept features a driver-focused layout, with the steering wheel, digital instrument cluster and heads-up display placed in the direct field of view. Audi has yet to confirm whether the concept will make it into production or not, but more details should be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
