The DTM championship ended today in Shanghai, with Mercedes-Benz driver Paul Di Resta taking the title. The race itself, shortened by an incident during lap 50, which led to a red flag which ended it, was somehow eclipsed by the show of force of another German manufacturer, Audi.
The four-ring logo was to be seen pretty much all over the track, thanks especially to the Audi TT GT4 Concept which was presented in Shanghai. The car, intended to become a new customer program for wannabe racers across European and Asian markets, was ran around the track with driver Frank Biela behind the wheel.
The model will sell in the near future for EUR120,000 ($159,000). For that money, customers will receive a TFSI engine packed under the hood together with its 340 horsepower troop. There are no numbers yet on what the car is capable of.
The engine is paired to a S-tronic transmission with a differential lock, while modified production suspension with adjustable dampers are used to tackle the huge engine power.
Visually, the TT GT4 comes with the same front apron, rear apron and the rear wing stem featured in the TT RS. Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) has been used in manufacturing the hood, doors and trunk lid.
Audi took advantage of the last DTM race of the season in Shanghai to launch the TT GT4 on the Chinese market. Its entrance in Europe has not yet been announced. The new TT GT4 is planned to extend Audi’s modular customer sport program from 2012 onwards.
