Audi pushed back the introduction of the A3 for a full year in order to bring the A4 and A5 facelifts, which are crucial in order to keep up with BMW and Mercedes on the global market. But now that out of the way, nothing is stopping them from bringing the new compact, expected to arrive late next year as a 2013 model.
Today, Audi has announced it has received approval to build a factory in China with FAW-VW, the VW Group's Chinese partner. The factory in Foshan will employ 4,000 people and will kick into life in 2013, producing between 150,000 to 200,000 units.
“Our ties with China and our partner FAW date back more than 20 years”, said Audi Chairman Rupert Stadler at the ceremony announcing the new production site. “In order to be able to tackle future challenges together as well, we want to strengthen our presence significantly in China and further strengthen our strategic partnership. The new plant is an important milestone in our long-term growth strategy in China.”
