Currently, Audi USA only offers TDI clean diesels engines on the A3 and the Q7. The diesel-powered market experiment has proven very successful for the company, and they now announced four more TDI models.
For the 2014 model year, the A6, A7, A8 and Q5 will all be available with the same 3-liter turbocharged diesel V6 as the Q7. This is rated at 240 horsepower and 406 lb-ft (550Nm). The A8 TDI is the only car to be thoroughly detailed, since it will hit the market first, in spring 2013. It gets from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds an returns 36 mpg highway and 24 mpg city.
All of the four models will be shown at next week’s Los Angeles Auto Show, but the A6, A7 and Q5 will only be available in fall of 2013, as 2014 model years cars with updated gadgets.
“Owners of Audi TDI engines have helped save over 4 million gallons of gasoline, or the equivalent of more than 240,000 barrels of foreign oil, since the introduction of Audi TDI to the U.S. in 2009,” said Scott Keogh, President of Audi of America. "And, TDI technology delivers better fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance."
