Audi, and the VW Group for that matter, specializes in offering every possible configuration of one particular car. This became abundantly clear to us when they turned the A5, which was only supposed to be a coupe/convertible, into a four-door sedan.
The big news today coming our way from Ingolstadt via German website Auto Motor und Sport is that the A1 will no longer be just a hatchback. The reports say an A1 Cabrio will be launched next year, becoming the third variant on the same chassis after the regular three-door and the five-door Sportbrack.
But unlike the A3 Cabrio, this will not have a big folding fabric roof that, instead opting for a rolling canvas design like that on the Fiat 500C. This conserves some of the strength of the car and a decent side profile, but isn’t as airy. But Audi probably chose this design because it’s much cheaper.
