Audi to Kill the RS4?

We don't even know how to tell you this, because we really don’t want you to pass out like some of us did (the rest went berserk and trashed the office, so now we are writing from the garage). Oh well, there’s now way of making this sound less like a disaster: Audi wants to kill the RS4!

According to Car and Driver’s German correspondent, the Audi RS4 will not receive a direct successor. And we haven’t even got to the ridiculous part yet - the reason. It seems that Audi sees the RS5 as being able to also cater for the ultra-fast transportation needs of those who were in the market for an RS4.

We think we know why this has happened. If you check the industry category in our news section, you’ll be able to see that the Volkswagen group has been incredibly busy lately, deciding which company takes care of the Group’s sports cars (this one went to Porsche), which one handles the SUVs (Audi will take care of this). Audi would’ve really liked to have taken Porsche’s place in developing the Group’s go-fast machines but the Gods showed no mercy for the four-ringed brand.

We can only guess that a cake made of late night meetings with a cherry of of failure made the Audi guys loose their minds and take the aforementioned decision.

What can we say, Audi should take up BMW M courses - we’re pretty sure that the Bavarian’s example of offering the M3 in both sedan and coupe incarnation will bring Audi back on the right path.

Before we end the story, we must tell you that the correspondent also tells us that Audi will build an RS6. Various media reports show that the vehicle will be powered by a 600 hp turbocharged V8 engine, which is being co-developed with Bentley. You can see a rendering of the car here.
