Audi to Build Mexico Plant: New SUV to Be Produced from 2016

Audi recently announced that it will build a factory in Mexico, with this being its first production site in North America. However, the automotive producer hasn’t selected a location for the plant so far, but this step will be completed by the end of the current year.

The factory will enter the action by 2016 and will be used to produce a new SUV - Audi hasn’t mentioned the exact model, but we’re probably talking about the next generation of the Q5.

“Good infrastructure, competitive cost structures and existing free trade agreements played a significant role in the choice of Mexico. This trailblazing move will help us safeguard our position on the world market. Our German locations, too, stand to benefit from it," Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said.

The move is part of a bigger plan through which Audi hopes to reach worldwide annual sales of two million cars in the US, all by 2020.
