Audi Tested the R18 Evolution 2 at Sebring

Preparing for the start in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, German manufacturer Audi is currently testing the contenders to the title of winners of the race, the new R18 Evolution 2, in the US, following last week's 12 Hours of Sebring.

Present for testing in the States for the first time, two models of the new racer, chassis numbers 101 and 102, have been driven in the course of four days in Sebring, accompanied by the iconic and widely recognized as a racing icon R15.

The three cars were driven by the entire lineup of Audi racing drivers, who have clocked, according to Audi thousands of kilometers. Audi's goal was to learn everything they needed to know about all components of the vehicles, including vehicle setup, aerodynamics, tires, cooling, and reliability.

Having performed rather well in the Sebring tests, the two R18 models will not enter any other race until the Audi engineers have a close look at them. And by close look, they mean dismantling the vehicles and analyzing the data for each of the components, in part.

The cars have already begun their journey back to Europe, where they will be ripped apart. After that, they'll get ready for the appearance in the event they were meant to race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2011.

The two R18 Evolution models will be officially presented during the official testing day, on April 24. On May 7, they will be entered in the 6-hour race in Spa-Francorchamps. The Le Mans 24h race will take place on June 11 and June 12.
