Audi Tells the History of the TT Sportscar

It's easy to thing of the TT as just another chopped VW Golf, but it's actually the most potent car currently based on the MQB platform. With a 2-liter TFSI engine, the new TTS performance model is getting ready for launch promising 310 horsepower and a series of revolutionary technologies. As this is a third generation coupe, there's plenty of history to look back upon, which is exactly what Audi did with its next video.

The Vorsprung Durch Technik of the Audi TT starts in 1995 with the concept version, which soon went into production. Despite being based on the same platform as the Golf and subsequently a FWD car, it managed to win over lots of people.

Its launch didn't go according to plan though, as many people discovered the handling characteristic at high speed were scary. Audi immediately issued a recall and fitted virtually every car with a big spoiler on the back to glue the bottom of the car to the ground.

The Mk3's cabin remains a spectacular place to be. It's still a well built cabin, but now it has other features like air conditioning controls integrated into the air vents and a large display in the dash which also takes care of navigation functions. This feature is perhaps the coolest one offered on the new model, perhaps its biggest selling point in the face of stiff competition from BMW's 2-Series.

If you plan on getting the new TT, know that it's currently available with three engines in Europe. The first is a 2.0-liter TDI fitted to the base model. It's the same as in the Golf GTD, but since the TT is lighter performance is even better. Two versions of the EA888 2.0-liter turbo are also available, with either 230 hp or, as in the case of the new TTS, 310 hp.
