Like many other carmakers, Audi is treading very carefully inside the electric car segment. It’s actually so prudent that we’ve had a teaser campaign for the new e-tron GT that felt longer than a freezing Siberian night in the middle of the winter. Fortunately, we’re finally seeing the light at the end of the EV tunnel.
It was back in October 2020 when Audi revealed it was diligently preparing to kick off small-series production of the 2021 Audi e-tron GT alongside the R8 supercar inside the Audi Böllinger Höfe production facility (part of the legendary Neckarsulm site).
Then, a month later, the company also disclosed some information about their first electric vehicle from the Audi Sport high-performance division, complete with early reviews – even though Audi’s RS e-tron GT was still completely covered in camouflage.
Come February 9th, the e-tron GT will finally shed its covers (from 1 p.m. CET) for the global online reveal. And the flagship EV of the company is going to be treated to a host of events because Audi wants to make sure everyone understands that “sustainability, emotional design, and high performance” have all been combined into their new product, which is also said to bring with it “a re-interpretation of ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’.”
The “Day of Progress” will take care of the virtual presentation of the e-tron GT, with the online streaming footage scheduled at the Neuburg an der Donau site. Then it’s up for the “Sprint of Progress” part that promises to “demonstrate all of the high-performance characteristics of modern electromobility.”
Finally, during the evening (from 7 p.m. CET) Markus Duesmann (Audi’s CEO) and Hildegard Wortmann (Board Member for Sales and Marketing) will be on point for the world premiere section – naturally titled “Celebration of Progress.”
And, just in case Audi officials aren’t enough to ensure the proper level of glamour, the company also made sure to invite a few star guests, chief among them being well-known designer Stella McCartney.
