Audi Takes Control of Sebring Testing in Day 2

Audi ended its pre-season testing at Sebring on top of the timing reports, although the best time recorded by the #1 Audi of Timo Bernhard, Romain Dumas and Mike Rockenfeller was still more than half a second shy of Peugeot's performance the day before.

After the French manufacturer dominated the first day of test in Sebring with their new-spec 908, Audi returned to their best behavior on Tuesday to take the top spot in both testing sessions – morning and afternoon – with the best times of 1:48.450s and 1:49.271 respectively.

While Audi's time in the morning was hardly challenged by anyone, their performance in the afternoon saw both Peugeots get closer to their German competition in the time classification, as the best placed 908 finished only two tenths of a second behind the #1 Audi.

The second R15 TDI completed the quad of aces, while Highcroft's HPD provided the best competition coming from a petrol-powered racer. Bear in mind that the British team came to Sebring after only a few miles of testing of their new LMP1-spec racer, having debuted it on US soil no further than the past weekend.

Without Highcroft breathing down their neck, Signature's ORECA-Nissan dominated the action in the LMP2 class, while AF Corse put its Ferrari in front in the GT category following a close fight against the #4 Corvette.

Tuesday was the last day of pre-season testing for this year's ALMS season, as the 2011 campaign kicks off this very Thursday with the first official practice session of the Sebring 12 Hour race.
