Audi SQ7 vs. Bentley Bentayga Diesel Acceleration: There's Not Much in It

For whatever reason, Porsche decided to stay away from diesel engines with the new Cayenne, which means the Bentley Bentayga is the only SUV that inherits the fancy 4.0 TDI from the Audi SQ7.

Before we see how the two compare, we want to mention that with a year, you will have at least one more choice. We're sure the SQ7 will pack the same kind of motor, probably matching the outputs as well.

Right, getting back to the SQ7, it's already a couple of years old but still impressive for a diesel. In a recent drag race against the Range Rover Sport SVR, it triggered a sort of "why is this keeping up?" reaction from the drivers.

And the reason this 2.2 ton SUV with "only" 435 HP has to do with torque and how it's delivered. Engines use torque to pull themselves forward, and the SQ7 has 900 Nm of it, more than most performance cars out there. And to ensure there's as little lag as possible, Audi also fitted an electric supercharger to force in air before the turbos can kick into action.

It's based around the 48-volt electric architecture, which seemed revolutionary when it came out. Of course, being based on the same longitudinal platform, the Bentley Bentayga also has cool systems. The luxury automaker took a gamble fitting a diesel engine, and it seems to be popular in Europe.

Being a little heavier, the Bentayaga Diesel is supposed to be 0.1s slower to 100 km/h. But this independent look at the acceleration of these two models suggests they are nearly identical. At over 200 km/h, it seems like there's a 5kph gap in favor of the Audi, but the Bentayga has a higher top speed of 270 km/h.

This is a 10-minute long video, though, which also looks at the ins and outs of these two. The SQ7's interior seems especially outdated right now, but we know that a facelift is on its way, and it should fix everything from the screens to the headlights.
