Audi has taken us on quite the roller coaster rive with the SQ5. At first, the though of a performance Q model sounded like a swell idea, but then we realized they were going to use a diesel engine, one that hadn't been retuned.
The twin-turbo V6 TDI is impressive enough, with its output of 313 PS and 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft) of torque, but it's offered with the same output in the A6 and A7. Then we watched the next video and realized "stock" has never been cooler. In an underground parking lot, the SQ5's V6 diesel sounds like a force-fed fire-breathing dragon. Diesel engine technology really has improved and you can't really tell it's an oil-burner any more.
The V6 engine sends all its grunt through four elliptical exhaust pipes at the back. A sound actuator in the system gives the twin-turbo-V6 a deep sonorous sound.
With an SUV that gets you from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and delivers a combined fuel consumption of only 7.2 liters per 100 km (32.67 US mpg), the SQ5 makes a compelling case for itself, especially after we realized the €58,500 is quite reasonable.
