Audi Sold Well in the US in May

{img align=left}In a challenging economy as is the one of the US these days, it is very difficult to register increased sales, especially if you are a car manufacturer. Yet, as we already saw in the past few hours, signs of recovery can be seen all over the market, with most manufacturers posting higher numbers than the ones for April.

In Audi's case, May came along with a number of new sales records. Total sales in the US for the company stood at 7,503 units. The Audi Q5 had a big say in this as it registered a record month, with 1,413 units sold.

A big increase in numbers was seen the A5's case as well. The model registered a 59.5 percent increase, compared with May 2008, amounting to 716 units. In the time past since the beginning of 2009, Audi A5 sold 3,150 units, up 48.5 percent from last year.

The German manufacturer has high hopes for the upcoming models as well. Their Q7 TDI clean diesel SUV showed it can meet the demands of the US consumers in a limited release in May. The car sold 350 units, accounting for 44 percent of the total Q7 sales in the US.

"Consumers once again proved that when you offer the right product -- sporty, yet sophisticated, design with exceptional dynamic character -- sales will follow, no matter the economic headwinds," Johan de Nysschen, Audi of America president said.

"Industry sales this month continue to show that the nation has not yet turned the corner, but I see signs that consumers are interested, as both showroom and internet traffic are up."
