The fight for the first place in the premium car segment is tightening. BMW managed this year to retake the first place by a mere 407 cars after settling for second place since 2008, the year Peter Schwartzenbauer became Audi's sales chief.
Audi's sales rocketed after Schwartzenbauer joined the team. In his first year on the job the company's car sales crossed the 1 million barrier and increased by almost another half a million by 2012. The profits of the German company increased during this whole ordeal from €2.77 billion ($3.6 bilion) in 2008 to €5.38 billion ($7 billion) last year. Those are impressive numbers for the former Audi employee especially since the last few years have been marked by the global economic and financial crisis.

Sources close to the BMW board said that Schwartzenbauer will join the Munich based company next month, taking up a job at a top-management level. However, Bill McAndrews, BMW spokesman did not provide us with any comment when asked about the ex-Audi employee.

Peter Schwartzenbauer is 53, studied at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, joined BMW in 1984 and held different positions within the marketing and sales department. In 1994 he joined Porsche AG and became CEO of the company's North American division in 2003.
