Audi RS7 Races the World's Fastest Elevator in Dubai

I'm not going to lie to you guys; there's a small statue of the Burj Khalifa building sitting on my desk right now. I got it only a couple of days ago, and I never thought there would come a day when I'd have to write something about it, at least not so soon.

Dubai is about as historical as Las Vegas, but this skyscraper is so tall that it's worth being called one of the wonders of the world. We ask Hollywood to sell us fanciful visions of the future, but the Khalifa tower is so tall that you can see the horizon curving from the top. Even King Kong would get vertigo if he climbed to the top!

Its total height of about 828 meters is the equivalent of London's Canary Wharf combined with Taipei 101. As you would expect, it has a lot of floors and several elevators required to move thousands of people per day.

A total of 57 elevators are installed, each capable of carrying up to 24 people at one time. Unfortunately, this is where this story encounters its first major hurdle. While Audi Middle East claims the Burj Khalifa's elevator is the fastest in the world at 10 meters per second (36 km/h), good-ol' Wikipedia says Taipei 101 holds that title at 16,83 m/s (60.6 km/h).

Regardless, the car being used for this challenge is much faster, as the twin-turbo V8 engine of the RS6 grants it 560 horsepower and a top speed of 305 km/h (189.5 mph). So to make the race fair, while a sprinter races from the bottom to the top of the tower, the Audi has a whole road to cover.

It's not a bad road either, as the Jebel Hafeet has been called by some the best mountain drive in the world. It's not the Stelvio Pass, but that won't stop the driver from enjoying himself, despite the interference of a goat.

So who wins? We won't spoil the results, so you'll have to watch the video and find out.
