Audi RS6 Tuned to 690 HP Takes on a 700 HP BMW M5

Yesterday we saw an interesting drag race between a tuned BMW M5 taken up to 700 HP going up against a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. It should’ve been an interesting match-up as the Muscle Car has a close power output in stock guise compared to the Bimmer.
However, things didn’t go exactly as planned, the GT500 losing by quite an impressive margin. I don’t know; it could’ve been due to the manual gearbox and a serious lack of skills on behalf of the driver, but something definitely didn’t go as planned in that race.

Now it’s time for the European version of a muscle car to take on the 700 HP M5, and we’re talking about the Audi RS6 here. Developed by Audi’s quattro division, this is one family car you don’t want to challenge to a drag race or any kind of race as a matter of fact.

Under the bonnet lies a 4-liter TFSI V8 making 560 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque that’s more than potent to handle anything you throw at it. Thanks to the quattro all-wheel-drive system, the RS6 Avant is a land rocket, going from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds.

By comparison, the BMW M5 (which is its natural rival, even though it’s not available in Touring guise) accelerates to the same benchmark speed in 4.4 seconds, and that’s a huge difference. That’s especially true since they have similar power outputs at 560 HP with a slight torque advantage for the Audi as BMW has just 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) to rely on as stock. The biggest advantage the four-ringed car has though is the all-wheel drive transmission that manages to put every pony down better.

However, that’s all just theoretical talks as the numbers go up in smoke once tuners get involved. The BMW here has 700 HP going for it, all on the rear axle. That’s thanks to a Burger Motorsports ECU tune, AFE air intake, AMS 3.5” catless downpipes, H&R springs, pre-silencer delete and a free flow exhaust with cross pipe delete by Uppsala Avgasteknik.

On the other hand, the Audi went up to 690 HP thanks to a new ECU tune. Could that be enough to keep up? We’re asking because the race is done from a rolling 50 km/h (30 mph) start. If this was a standing start, I’m afraid the BMW would’ve been in deep trouble.
