The Audi RS6 has been duking it out with the Mercedes-AMG E63 since 2013. During this time, the slightly sexier RS7 also picked a fight with the top CLS model and the BMW M6 Gran Coupe.
When a mid-life upgrade was launched a few months ago for both Audi models, it only changed the headlights and added some new paint options. Yet we've known that the Germans were cooking up something even more exciting at their Skunk Works laboratories. While expecting a slight bump in output from 560 to 580 PS, we were pleasantly surprised by the debut of the 605 hp pair of monsters.

Infused with the blood of Satan… and gearboxes that can cope with more torque, the Audi RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback performance models made their debuts a little while ago. Only one of them is going to make a live appearance at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. However, both can be heard screaming at the top of their lungs in the promo video below.

For turbocharged V8 engines as small as 4.0L, these cars sound really good. Dare we say it? A little better than the Mercedes-AMG C63. We know they aren't in the same class, but the under-hood setup is similar.

The new cream of the Audi crop provides a 605 PS output that is 45 PS higher than standard. Also, new 21-inch wheels, an upgraded 8-speed automatic and adaptive sports air suspension are all standard.

If you're the type of person that's easily impressed by numbers, know that these enhanced athletes can get from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 189.5 mph (305 km/h) when fitted with the optional performance package. So yes, they will pulverize your liver in a straight line.

But not everybody will be able to enjoy having their intestines wrapped around the spine. The RS6 Avant performance is the cheapest of the pair at €117,000 and Audi wants €121,700 for the RS7 Sportback performance in Germany.

Those who plan to visit the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show should know they can check out a $129,000 US-spec version of the ultimate RS four-door coupe.
