The Coupe version of Audi’s refreshed RS5, which debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, will apparently be followed by the drop-top version on the US market as confirmed by an application filed with the California Air Resources Board (CARB), according to Car and Driver.
CARB is the official institution which certifies vehicles for sale in California, if they comply with their very strict emissions standards. However, despite Audi’s application containing both the Coupe and the Cabriolet, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they will sell the car there. However, they would be foolish not to, as the US is definitely the world’s largest market for convertibles, and Audi will definitely want a piece of that action, while also sprucing up their RS range which currently only features the TT RS.
Audi have kept the awesome 4.2-liter V8 for the RS5 and haven’t replaced it with a force-fed V6 as some had speculated. The excellent V8 will definitely appeal to the American buyer and the car will definitely have a successful future on the US market.
