It's been quite some time since German manufacturer Audi presented a model of its RS series, but most will say the wait was worth while. The carmaker today pulled the wraps off the RS3 Sportback, a model which will become available in early 2011 at prices starting from EUR49,900 ($68,220).

The car uses a 2.5l turbocharged engine, capable of developing 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Controlled by a seven-speed S tronic transmission, the engine propels the car with the help of the quattro permanent all-wheel drive to a top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph). The naught to sixty acceleration is rated at 4.6 seconds.

To handle the increased power, the car has received some serious modifications to other components as well. It uses a McPherson strut construction as a front suspension (the suspension has been lowered by 25 millimeters compared to the standard A3), coil springs and redesigned shock absorbers and internally ventilated brake disks.

The body of the new RS3 will be made available in five exterior colors, as well as in an “unlimited selection of custom paint finishes.” The car rides on 19-inch aluminum wheels fitted with 235/35 series tires at the front and 225/35 at the rear. The wheels are available either in machine-polished titanium-look styling or in black with a red rim flange.

The RS3 Sportback is equipped as standard with Sport button, rear parking system, climate control, chorus radio system, and xenon plus headlights with LED daytime running lights. At the interior, RS3 logos adorn the Nappa leather sport seats, while the leather multifunction sports steering wheel is flat-bottomed.
