Boy, the RS3 Sportback has drawn the short stick this year. It was already harshly criticized for its handling, but now Audi is giving better tech to other models.
Even though there haven't been any spy images, we're confident the RS3 hatch will at least get some cosmetic updates for 2017. The entire A3 range has been updated, and now features headlights that are similar to the A4. But the RS model has been made obsolete and also lacks some of the features seen on its all-new sedan brother, plus it's not shown in the configurator.
And we aren't just talking about the engine. No, the RS3 hatch infotainment system dates back to 2012 when the A3 was revealed. However, the one in the RS3 sedan features a digital dashboard and other features you can't even have on the RS7.
This set of renderings shows the likely cosmetic update for the RS3 hatchback is made by Theophilus Chin. It's easy work for him, as grafting new front and rear elements onto the car is nothing special.
While the regular A3 has been criticized for looking too much like its bigger brother. The cosmetic package of the RS3 sedan, a car revealed at the Paris Motor Show, has proven much more popular. You've got a nice combination of black grilles and more winglets that give the front a more menacing appearance.
And, of course, we can't forget what's under the hood either. Both the TT RS and the RS3 sedan use a brand new 2.5-liter TFSI engine that's 25 kilos lighter thanks to aluminum construction. Extra turbo boost also ensures a heftier output of 400 PS instead of 367 PS.
The only thing holding the RS3 facelift back is time. You see, an all-new generation is supposed to come out in 2018. And let's not forget that the previous generation was a limited edition model with only a few thousand built. But Audi has invested in unprofitable models like the RS Q3, so a core hyper hatch should get preferential treatment.
