Audi RS3 Sedan Is Real, First Images Reveal Matrix LED Headlights for Facelift

Rember the RS3 Sedan story from yesterday? Well, Audi of America execs did so much more than just talking about the car, as they actually presented a pre-production prototype. The German manufacturer has been doing everything to cover up these two images. However, they cannot be unseen, and their efforts also confirm that this isn't photoshop.

The RS3 sedan looks entirely different to its hatchback counterpart. That's partly because it comes with the features of a mid-life facelift, just like the S1 didn't look like the A1 when it came out. The grille has a more pronounced hexagonal shape while the rest of the front bumper is edgier. The silver spoiler at the bottom now connects to the side air intakes, which borrow cues from the RS7.

In profile, the RS3 sedan shares many cues with the hatchback, including the silver mirrors and the optional 21-inch alloy wheels. If you don't like it, all the chrome can be blacked out. This RS3 model is easily mistaken for an RS4 because of the new headlights with an extra edge at the bottom. These will become available after the A3 facelift is revealed, most likely in Geneva next month. It will be interesting to see if Audi decides to refresh the RS3 hatchback just one year after the launch. However, they did it with the RS6 and RS7, so we expect they will. The Matrix LED headlights are going to make the car even more expensive, as should the Virtual Cockpit digital dashboard.

Considering that the super-powered A3 turned out to be real, we have no reason to doubt all the other rumors. So the 2.5-liter turbo might indeed be tuned to offer around 400 horsepower. Meanwhile, the RS family should increase in size at a rapid pace by the end of the decade. After the RS4 wagon, we may see a sedan or an RS5 Sportback. An RS Q2 and RS Q5 may also be introduced, flanking the existing RS Q3 model.

Will there be demand for so many RS models? We don't know, but the RS3 sedan will almost certainly be successful. The US community has been asking for the RS3 to be sold here for many years and a sedan is an excellent way to silence the hatchback snobs.
