Audi RS3 8V Getting 367 HP 2.5 TFSI Engine

The Audi S3 might be available in four different body styles, but it's out there alone, fighting the much more powerful rivals from AMG and BMW M. How long will you wait before you send out the reinforcements, Audi?

Not long, apparently, as a report from a German forum indicates the next RS3 will arrive as soon as next spring and it could outperform the hot AMGs. Right now, the A45 is powered by a 2-liter turbo, while the M135i's weapon of choice is a 3-liter engine. By keeping the 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbo in service, Audi's RS3 will basically sit in between them in terms of displacement.

But when it comes to power, the new 2.5-liter TFSI will produce 367 PS (270 kW), which is 7 more than the A45 and crucially 27 PS more than the old RS3. Delivery will take place through a six-speed S tronic box to a quattro all-wheel drive system. With the help of launch control, it could be faster than the AMG hatch, especially since the S3 is already quite close to it.

The only approved body style so far is the five-door, the traditional RS3 body. But there could and should be others as well, especially the "limousine" without which there's no chance of US deliveries.

If the sound of a fast RS3 to top AMG's best got your excited, you should know that according to our German source, sales will start in April 2015 with deliveries in June. It won't be cheap, but it should be worth the wait!
