Audi RS Q8 Makes Messerschmitt Noises on the Nurburgring

The Anglo-German power war never really stopped; it just moved from sedans and coupes to performance SUVs. While the Range Rover Sport SVR is currently our favorite soundtrack to listen to, that could change when the RS Q8 comes out.

The debut of the regular Q8 left some questioning Audi's engine choices, as only a V6 diesel is available at the moment. But you will be able to buy a 4-liter gas-guzzling V8, provided you can afford the RS model.

While the 4.0 TFSI is technically similar to engines featured in the Porsche Panamera, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus, Audi still made it sound like an RS should. The soundtrack we hear in this Nurburgring spy video is quite similar to the one that debuted in the RS6 about six years ago.

Some have compared it to machinegun fire or Messerschmitt fighters from WWII. All we know is that the RS Q8 will be one desirable SUV.

Although the power output has not yet been confirmed, we expect at it to at least match the 605 HP of the RS6 performance. However, we wouldn't be surprised by 650 HP either, seeing as Audi allowed its R8 V10 plus to match the Lamborghini Huracan.

The RS Q8 will be not only one of the most powerful Audi models ever built but also expensive as well. We believe it will come out in late 2019 or early 2020 with a sticker price of around $120,000. And even then, it should be relatively cheap compared to all the other top-end SUVs that are out there.

Of course, it's not a Sports Activity Coupe, even though Audi is targeting the BMW X6 M market. But we're kind of glad Ingolstadt designers decided to do their own thing rather than following BMW and Mercedes. The Sportback trunk design in combination with some futuristic sharp edges makes the super SUV quite the looker.

Of course, the RS model has its own bumper design, bigger wheels, and lower suspension. Audi is undoubtedly going to offer options like a carbon body pack, ceramic brakes, butterfly valve exhaust or 22-inch wheels.
