Audi Reports Sales Increase in May

German carmaker Audi posted today its sales figures for May, with the numbers showing yet another good month, compared to the same period of last year.

Audi managed to increase it numbers by 14.6 percent, selling 94,900 units last month. Year-to-date sales stand at 455,700 units, 21.7 percent more than last year.

“The Audi brand has made a significant leap forward in the U.S. market during the crisis. Yet despite optimistic planning, we didn’t expect the trend in sales figures to be so strong,” Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi member of the board for marketing and sales said in a statement. “For the overall year of 2010, I expect a significantly double-digit growth rate.”

As was the case with rival Mercedes Benz, China proved to have an insatiable appetite for German-made cars. Here, the carmaker posted the strongest growth in all its markets, selling 17,396 vehicles, or 40 percent above the May 2009 figures (Asia-Pacific sales increased as a whole by 36 percent, to 21,350 units).

As all of its markets have reported sales increase, Western Europe proved to be the less interested in Audi vehicles. With a 5 percent overall increase, this region sold 55,250 vehicles. But hopes are high...

“In Europe we will experience an additional boost with the Audi A1. We have been taking orders for the past four weeks – and so far have registered more orders than for any other model in such an early phase,” Schwarzenbauer said.
