Audi Reports Best First Quarter in History

In the beginning of April, we've been flooded with announcements made by automakers about all the records they broke for the first quarter of the year, when it comes to the number of vehicles sold. The German ones, apparently, have been at the center of the customers' attention in the first three months of the year, with both BMW and Mercedes posting strong sales figures for the period.

Now willing to be left behind, Audi too managed to complete adding up the numbers and announced on Thursday that it too broke all records. Q1 2011 has been for Audi, for all intents and purposes, the best in its history.

The four-ring brand sold 312,600 vehicles all over the world in Q1, an increase of 18.4 percent compared to the same period of last year. The achievement was made possible by the strong results in March, when the automaker sold 125,700 vehicles.

The best markets for Audi were China (64,122 cars sold between January and March, 24.6 percent up) and Europe (186,500 units sold for the three months, 14.8 percent up), from the percentage and volume point of view, respectively.

As for the models Audi customers found to be most appealing, the entire range participated to the good numbers. The A1, the bet the automaker made in the small car segment, is still to fulfill all expectations, having sold only 31,000 units since the beginning of the year.

The A6, on the other hand, promises to bring hefty numbers at the end of each month. Audi's Marketing and Sales Head Peter Schwarzenbauer says the new A6 should, in theory, “exceed the total sales volume of its predecessor by around 25 percent.”
