The Audi R8 LMS GT4 is one of the most successful models currently fielded on tracks across the world by wannabe racing drivers. In its current configuration, the car snatched 17 titles worldwide last year. And now comes an even better version.
Together with the introduction as a fully pledged model of the rear-wheel-drive version of the R8 V10, the German brand announced on Wednesday (November 6) the launch of a bettered variant of the LMS GT4.

Because of the regulations of the series it races in, the 5.2-liter V10 engine in the new car can deliver the same 495 hp as before, so not much can be done in this respect - the engine is controlled by the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. But Audi did find a way to better its product in at least one respect.

First, drivers will from now on be able to adjust the settings of the ABS braking and traction control systems (TC). This is the first time such a thing is possible in the track-only R8, and no less than eight different settings can be specified depending on weather, track conditions, or tire grip, among others.

Then, the new car has been equipped with the steering wheel of the GT2 racing version of the R8. This steering wheel has the two rotary switches for the ABS and TC fitted on it, allowing ease of operation.

“This allows them to immediately respond to new challenges and to configure their personal setup of both systems while keeping their eyes focused on the race track,” said the carmaker.

“As most GT4 racing series prescribe driver changes, individual preferences can be easily and accurately selected before and after the pit stop."

The R8 LMS GT4 can currently be used in 27 racing series on all continents. Prices for buying and enlisting the new car in any of them were not announced.
