Audi R8 V10 Spyder Takes Drop Top of the Year at SCOTY

Audi R8 V10 Spyder was chosen Drop Top of the Year by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers at its annual Scottish Car of the Year Awards, held in St Andrews, Scotland. The convertible version of the R8 snatched the prize from its competitors, such as the Nissan 370Z or the Volvo C70, to top the convertible category.

John Murdoch, President of the ASMW, praised the open-air R8, saying: “This year’s SCOTY winner features incredible performance, stunning looks, four-wheel-drive and a wonderful soundtrack, and is sure to become a collector’s item. The R8 Spyder is right at the top when it comes to desirability.”

Drop Top of the Year is just the latest in a series of awards the R8 range received. Since its 2008 launch, the R8 in various forms has been gathering a large number of sought after awards at the World Car of the Year Awards, Auto Express New Car Awards, What Car? Awards, Top Gear Awards, MSN Car Awards and Business Car Awards.

The jurors were so impressed with the car's reasonable price, dynamic chassis and powerful 5.2-liter V10 engine with 386 kW (518 hp / 525 PS) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) of torque that they almost called it a supercar.

The fully automatic lightweight fabric top adds wind in your hair intensity to the thrill of driving an extremely fast car (top speed of 194 mph or 312 km/h). The lightweight aluminum, mid-engined car is priced at GBP 116,660 for the V10 version or GBP 95,545 for the less powerful but equally fun V8 engine.
