Audi R18 E-Tron quattro Wins Le Mans

Audi were set to triumph at this year’s edition of the LeMans 24 hour race. Nobody but Toyota could have stopped them in their quest to win - but they didn’t. At the end of the 24 hours, an Audi R18 e-tron quattro took the checkered flag, after having been driven by Andre Lotterer, Marcel Fassler and Treluyer Benoit.

The first three positions of the podium were taken by Audi cars, with another e-tron R18 taking second and an R18 Ultra taking third. The Audi drivers' jobs were made considerably easier by the fact that the two factory Toyotas also running a hybrid system had to retire, one of which due to an accident involving a Ferrari 458 GTE. The Toyotas could have been the only ones to stop Audi, as at one point a TS030 was ahead of the Germans, but we didn't get to see the 'battle' play out untill the end.

Another car which was of particular interest was the Nissan DeltaWing, but it too suffered an accident and was forced to retire. However, with Audi dominating in their hybrids, and Toyota being very close behind with their hybirds, next year’s race should see even more hybrids, as manufacturers are understanding the benefits of such a system fitted to a race car.
