Very few people will think the lockdown was a good thing, and even those who do won't have the courage to say it out loud because they realize how big of a problem this whole thing has been for most of humanity.
And yet, that doesn't mean nothing good has come out of it. People read more, spent more time with their families, made repairs around the house, and designed what could very well be the future Audi electric sports car.

Wait, what? Yes, while some of us were replacing a light bulb and feeling pretty great about ourselves, two guys from the UK got together - virtually, of course - and created a stunning rendering of an Audi sports car that definitely deserves some attention from the German manufacturer.

Audi's electrification plans are only just starting to catch shape, and with the e-tron GT just around the corner, that shape looks very promising. The four-door coupe won't match the performance of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, but it won't be far behind either. As for its exterior design, you can't really say it's better or worse, only different.

The Quattro E2² rendered here, however, is in a league of its own, and we would really love to see Porsche's answer because it would have to be something truly spectacular. We guess comparing a fully blown sports car to a four-door coupe (which is essentially a sedan with a sloped roof) isn't exactly fair or relevant, so let's just focus on the former instead.

According to Michael Mills and Nick Markham, the two artists behind the project, the Audi Quattro E2² has four key elements when it comes to its design. Usually, these things are just excuses for designers to insert some aspirational mumbo-jumbo to make their project seem more interesting, but in this case, they are all plainly obvious in the final version of the vehicle.

The four descriptors are "sharp, technical, monolithic, and ambient." With the exception of the last one maybe, the other three are the perfect words to describe the Quattro E2². If we were to level one complaint at the design it would be this: replace that "grille" with one made out of two pieces that are, let's say, kidney-shaped, and the vehicle would make just as much sense as a BMW as it does now as an Audi. As for the rear, it has Honda NSX written all over it.

Yes, it is a bit generic, but it does have an excuse: it's an exploration into uncharted waters for Audi, so it was free to take whatever shape its creators saw fit. Looking at it, we guess we can all agree other much worse shapes were possible, to put it euphemistically, so feel free to congratulate the two Brits.

If it came out tomorrow, the Audi Quattro E2² would have very little competition. One year later, though, and the Rimac C_Two would already be out, and, God willing, we might even see the all-new Tesla Roadster roaming the streets looking for its next victim. Those would be two very serious rivals, so Audi's electric R8 equivalent would need to pack a massive punch to go with those looks. However, talking about that would mean venturing a little too far for our comfort into baseless speculation territory, so we'll just leave that to your imagination.
