Audi Quattro Coupe, Model Year 2014

quattro is a name for any automotive enthusiast that needs no description. However, until the Paris Auto Show of last year, the quattro name did not stand for a model by itself. At that event, the German auto maker introduced the Quattro Concept, a model meant to stand for all the technological advancements that represent Audi's all-wheel drive system.

The model has been rumored to be headed for production ever since, but it is only now that someone from Audi placed a number near those rumors. According to unnamed sources from Audi, cited by Autocar, the Quattro concept will turn Quattro coupe for a production line that will debut in 2013 (model year 2014).

To be based on Audi's aluminum spaceframe chassis and wrapped in carbonfibre, the model will probably feel a little different from the concept shown in Paris. The sources say the prototype of the production model weighs 300kg less than the RS5, on which the concept is based. The production version itself will weigh 225 kg less than the R8.

As shown in Paris, the Quattro came with a slightly different size than the RS5. It had a wheelbase shorter by 150 mm (5.91 inches), an overhang 200 mm (7.87 inches) shorter and a roofline lowered by 40 mm (1.57 inches).

Under the hood, Audi introduced a 2.5l turbocharged five-cylinder engine that develops 408 hp between 5,400 and 6,500 rpm and a peak torque of 480 Nm (354.03 lb ft) between 1,600 and 5,300 rpm. The engine was coupled to a six-speed manual transmission and a quattro AWD system that features the new crown center differential.
