Should your next family car be an SUV or a wagon? That question has become stale, asked too many times. But this comparison between the Audi Q8 50 TDI and the Audi A6 Avant 40 TDI looks at things a little backward: after owning an SUV, is it time to go back to luxury estates?
AutoTopNL's video is not in English but has thankfully been subtitled for global consumption. It takes another look at a hugely popular 4x4, the new Audi Q8 with its near-standard powertrain the "50 TDI."

That name means you have access to a 3.0-liter turbodiesel making 286 HP and 600 Nm of torque, the same as the G 350 d. The reviewer says that it's not a sportier version of the Q7, but an entirely new model that feels closely related to the Lamborghini Urus. It drives as sporty as it looks, unlike the Q7.

While everybody seems to agree about the exterior design and the overcomplicated but cool MMI 3 infotainment, the price is rarely mentioned. With the options it has, this beauty comes in at around €150,000, which is an eye-watering amount.

Also, the 286 HP engine is just adequate for the size and weight of the Q8. Ideally, you would want a V8, which Audi will undoubtedly offer with the SQ8 TDI and the RS Q8. So what do you get if you opt for the A6? Well, the Avant blends in more, though the S line body kit still keeps things nice and aggressive.

It feels more agile and nimble to drive, not that the Q8 doesn't want to be pushed. The 2019 A6 Avant 40 TDI also comes with a brand new engine, a 2-liter diesel which makes 204 HP and is helped by a 12V hybrid system. Of course, you can also get the big V6 from the Q8.

Driving the A6 makes you feel more connected to the road, and you need less power to get going. Still, at 2 tons, we wouldn't go as far as to call it light, nor is it cheap - €100,000 as seen here.
