Despite the success of both Mercedes and Audi in this market, the luxury SUVs by which all others are judged are still the BMW X models. Have you ever tried to figure out which Audi model is a rival for which BMW? Impossible isn’t?!
That’s because they’re no match if you’re not an Audi fan per say. Another market in which BMW has set the base, forcing Audi to follow is coupe crossovers, and Ingolstadt has officially confirmed already that they are indeed working on the Q6, a direct rival for the BMW X6.

Walter de Silva, head of VW Group design, confirmed the fact that Audi will release such a model, which will slot “in between the Q7 and Q5.”

As this rendering shows, the car is ever so slightly longer than the Q5, but not by much. This should give a better ride, because the added length is created from the wheelbase.

Since this is a lifestyle vehicle, the Q6 will have stronger design, evident in the rendering’s beefed-up grille and the bulging around the headlights. However, you just can’t ignore the fact that it’s a bit like a jacked up BMW 5-Series GT.

The Q6 coupe crossover is coming in 2016, one year later than Mercedes Benz’s answer, which will arrive in 2015. The test platform is only in the early stages of development, so don’t hold on to your money yet!
