There’s a new Q car in town and its name is the Audi Q2. From the video teaser uploaded by Audi Germany on YouTube, it’s difficult to see what we’re dealing with other than the obvious - a Vegas Yellow-painted crossover with four doors that slots below the compact-sized Audi Q3.
But then you zoom in on a screenshot taken from the video teaser and it hits you - gloss black rear pillars give the Audi Q2 a sort of floating roof treatment. That’s possible only if you look at it from the rear quarter. Curiously enough, the front pillars don’t follow the routine, as they wear Vegas Yellow paint instead of the gloss black found on the rear pillars.
Another detail we can confirm about the all-new Audi Q2 is that the taillights are square-shaped and each of its four angles are soft edged. Around the front, aesthetics get more traditional in the Audi sense. The Audi Q2 is slated to debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March, with its MQB underpinnings shared with the likes of the Volkswagen Golf Mk7.
That’s front-wheel-drive as standard and all-wheel-drive as an option for those who want better handling dynamics on the road. However, don’t expect lots of ground clearance and good approach/departure angles. At the end of the day, the Audi Q2 isn’t a full-blooded SUV nor an off-roader.
Most people anticipate that the engine lineup will mirror that of smaller brother Audi A1. As such, expect things to start with a 1.0 TFSI and continue with a 1.4 TFSI, 1.4 TDI, and 1.6 TDI. The 1.4s and 1.6 TDI will be eventually replaced by 1.5-liter engines. On the other hand, reports coming from the rumor mill suggest that the more powerful 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TFSI could make it on the engine list as well. Transmissions will come in the form of a 5-speed manual (for the 1.0 TFSI model), 6-speed manual, and 7-speed S tronic automatic.
