Audi Q2 Coming in 2014

In 2000, the car that said you’ve arrived was a VW Passat or Audi A4. But these days, the sensible yet respectable choice has to be the SUV. It’s not the roads getting worse, or man’s urge to go off-roading that are driving this market. It’s the need to sit taller and look more imposing in our wealth-oriented society.

To put all that more simply, SUVs are just cooler than everything else these days, and this is especially true in the luxury segment. But what do you do when you also want a small car for city traffic. Audi has the answer!

It’s called the Q2, and it’s only the latest car rumored in a list of Audi crossovers that also includes the Q4 and Q6.

From what we’ve heard, the Q2 will be presented as a concept first in the coming months. If reaction is good, a production version should follow within two years, so in late 2014 or early 2015, you’ll be able to buy one.

The Q2 will ride on a 2.5 meter wheelbase derived from the architecture of the Skoda Yeti. The base engine will likely be a 1.2 TFSI with 90 horsepower, followed by different tunes of the 1.4 TFSI from the A1. Diesel options will include 1.6 and 2.0 TDIs, but we don’t expect any hybrids.

Expect prices starting from €20,000 and availability originally limited to the European market.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
