Audi has confirmed what the German media said earlier this year: a new Q1 small crossover will go into production in 2016 at the company’s plant in Ingolstadt.
“The Q1 is a key component of our growth strategy,” said Audi CEO Rupert Stadler, adding that the new model “will make a strong contribution to the company’s new ongoing growth and will strengthen its international competitiveness.”
While manufacturer declined to go into specifics, it did say that “the decision to produce the new model will help to secure utilization of capacity at the main plant in Ingolstadt over the long term”. The Audi Q1 will become the company’s fourth crossover, joining the Q3, Q5 and the Q7.
There’s no actual info on the upcoming small crossover, but a past report claims the vehicle will be about 3.8 meters long and will have off-road-like ground clearance and styling. Audi released a teaser that suggests the same thing, but the photo is far from depicting a production vehicle.
