German automaker Audi planning to expand its A3 range with a compact crossover that could be launched in 2016 or 2017. Internally known as the "elevated space vehicle", the future A3 Allroad will be developed on the Volkswagen's MQB modular platform.
According to Automotive News, the company is already working on a concept car, but the Germans still haven't decided whether or not it will be showcased at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Word has it the new compact crossover could offer seating for up to seven people.
Other details have yet to be revealed, but our guess is that the A3 crossover could be offered with turbocharged 1.8-liter and diesel 2.0-liter engines.
The Audi A3 range has just been expanded this year with the introduction of a sedan version. The vehicle is available with the 1.5 TFSI (140 PS), the 1.8 TFSI (180 PS) and the 2.0 TDI (150 PS) units.
