Audi Posts Record Sales Month in China...

... for the third time in a row. The German manufacturer achieved increasing sales in the fifth month of the year in the entire Asia-Pacific region. In all, May was a good month for Audi, as its sales or market share increased in the European countries and the US as well.

Demand for our A3, A4 and A5 core models is strong thanks to our range of efficient four- and six-cylinder engines. The new Audi Q5, already a success in both Europe and the United States, is driving sales as well,” Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi Management for marketing and sales, said.

Still, as is the case with most manufacturers, the increased sales are only an illusion, as they only refer to the past months of 2009. Comparing these numbers with the corresponding months in 2008, Audi registered a decrease in sales 6.1 percent, from 88,168 vehicles to 82,800. In the first five months of 2009, Audi sold about 374,750 vehicles, 12.1 percent less than in the previous year

In Western Europe, sales decreased by 10.9 percent in May, from 59,093 vehicles to 52,650. From January to May, Audi sold about 243,250 vehicles here, meaning a 14.6 percent drop compared to the results registered in May 2008.

But, as we said, the Asia-Pacific region blooms. Audi sales here increased by 24.1 percent in May, amounting to 15,650 vehicles (2008 - 12,607 vehicles). For the first five months of the year, Audi sales increased, in all, by 5.4 percent, amounting to 68,500 vehicles.

China was a record market for Audi, for the third month in a row, as sales there increased by 27.8 percent (12,435 units) in May and 6.8 percent for the first five months (53,601) vehicles.
