Audi Maintains Growth Trend in May

As one of the brands of which mother company Volkswagen relies heavily for helping it achieve its 2018 world domination goal, Audi is continuing to confirm, posting once again, for the month of May, a double digit growth of its worldwide sales.

Last month the Germans have sold a total of 113,400 cars, 19.5 percent more than in the same month of last year. Since the beginning of the year, the four-ring brand sold 535,400, a hefty 17.5 percent hike from a year ago.

The best market for the Audi vehicles remained once again Europe, where 65,400 cars were sold. For the first time in a long time, China no longer posted the biggest percentage increase, being outpaced 108 percent (408 cars) to 44.6 percent (25,153 cars) by India. Still, China remains one of the most important markets for Audi, perhaps even more important than Volkswagen's new found love, the US.

“We have completed the capacity extensions to our production line in Changchun and are now able to build 300,000 cars locally there each year,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi member of the board for Marketing and Sales.

“Meanwhile our growth strategy for imported models is also bearing fruit: From January through May we sold 21,817 imported cars in China – an increase of 76.7 percent on the prior-year period.

The best-selling models in the lineup were the usual As, but this time the SUVs, or the Qs in the Audi lineup, managed to show a strong recovery.

"The segment for SUV models is growing – virtually everywhere in the world. That gives us cause to be optimistic about the prospects of the Audi Q3, which we will be bringing onto the market in the fourth quarter,” added Schwarzenbauer.
