This spy video shot on May 13th and released today shows an Audi RS7 being put through its paces on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Now, we know that a facelift for the whole A7 range has been revealed and is bringing some changes. But they are very small in the case of this flagship model.
So what's Audi up to, then? Why risk driving an expensive four-door coupe on a very wet track when the they should be done working on the RS7. It must be important!
These are likely the first tests for a new RS7 Plus model that's expected to come out next year. Though ECU remapping and a more free-flowing exhaust system, Audi is going to pull 600 PS from the 4.0 TFSI. This would not only mean a 40 PS increase in output, but also a specific output of 150 PS per liter.
The reason why Audi wants to make its flagship RS even more powerful has to do with the competition. BMW has pushed the 4.4-liter twin-turbo to 575 PS in the M5 Competition Package while Mercedes-AMG offers 585 PS with the CLS 63 AMG S-Model.
Along with he extra power, the RS7 is likely to receive bigger brakes, a ride height reduction and bespoke cosmetic touches. Unfortunately, we can't see any of that on the spied prototype yet.
