The Q5 looks a bit cleaner, apart from the glitzy front grille, it is a pretty civilized car. The back end is designed great and from the side view you can see that it resembles an estate car, because its a bit sportier and lower. The headlights look apart, as if some Star Wars characters designed them, and the interior is cleverly detailed.
The Q5's party piece is the 4 cylinder TFSI engine that produces 211hp and 258 lb-ft of torque coupled to a 7 speed automatic and Audi pointed out that the Q5 has a drag coefficient of 0.33 CX. The fact of the matter is this: the Q5 is the most economical car in its class, according to Audi.
The Q5 made its world debut at Beijing this past July, and the american market was their most important stop. The car looks slightly better than the Q7 but, it is far far away from the decent looking things that Audi got us used to when it designed sensible cars like the A4, A6 from previous generations. These recent models are a bit too techie in styling, and that is a bad thing to our liking, because Audi was established as a sensible brand for sensible people.
The top of the line glitz mobile has to be the Q7 which is an ugly (to our liking), big, heavy VW Touareg with all the off-road bits taken out. This is a footballers mom car, designed to take the kids to school when the streets are covered with leaves, or it rains, so that your kids feel safe in these “dangerous” conditions.
