Automakers around the world, especially those based in Europe and North America are becoming more and more interested into their Chinese operations, with this large market tending to play a key role into their global strategies. Audi for instance continues to run high in China and announced today that it increased sales in the country by 21 percent and for the first time, it managed to deliver more than 12,000 vehicles in a single month.
Specifically, Audi delivered 12,156 vehicles in China (including Hong Kong) in April, with the new Audi A4L accounting for 3,003 units - an increase of 78 percent. Furthermore, Audi A6L grew up as well, recording an increase of 12 percent to 7,976 units.
“These results clearly confirm Audi as the market leader in the premium segment,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management for Marketing and Sales at Audi AG.
“Together with our partners, we are heavily investing in our Chinese dealer network, which will strengthen our leadership position in service and customer satisfaction."
And Audi is confident it will perform even better in the future, mostly thanks to its efforts to increase the company's coverage in the country. For example, Audi on April 22 opened the largest terminal in Asia in Shaoxing. At this time, the company owns a total of 136 dealers in 95 cities and, by the end of the year, the German manufacturer plans to open 16 more terminals in China.
As we said, China is slowly but surely turning into a very large market for all automakers with even General Motors, the struggling automaker who is now closer to bankruptcy in the domestic market, putting all its hopes in this particular region.
