The five millionth quattro, which is a white Audi A6 Allroad 3.0 TDI, rolled off the assembly line at the Neckarsulm plant 33 years after the original Ur-Quattro model was built.

Since its introduction in 1980, Audi has used the famous quattro four-wheel-drive system on more than 140 different models, including road cars and racing vehicles as well.

"quattro is one of the key pillars of our brand and has been a critical factor in our successful history," said Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG. "The quattro permanent all-wheel drive makes it possible to directly experience our 'Vorsprung durch Technik.' We are committed to our pioneering role and will continue to develop this advantage with new technologies."

In 2012, Audi sold more than 43 percent of its cars with quattro all-wheel drive.
